Suwanee Construction Update

Repairs to Big Splash fountain are among the projects going around the city.

Suwanee has never been afraid of change, and the evidence continues around the city.

Several construction projects, city-sponsored and private, are in various stages now. An update:

  • The popular Big Splash interactive fountain in has gotten a tune-up. City Manager Marty Allen said workers leveled all the pavers that have shifted over the years. Also, workers replaced the diaphragms and aligned the heads to improve the spray. All work is finished, and the fountain should be back on in early April.
  • The old building at the city-owned lot at Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and I-85 has been razed, and workers will begin constructing . City officials held a groundbreaking recently on the $1.9 million project, which will house a firing range in the rear. Hogan Construction of Norcross is handling the project.
  • The QuikTrip store at Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and Satellite Boulevard is taking shape. This lot used to be a private residence, but it was rezoned commercial in 2010. as a good-faith move to comply with aesthetic desires; some of the trees on the lot were left standing.
