Suwanee Council Member Declares for Re-Election

Goodman has been on the panel since 2009.

Another Suwanee City Council member has declared political plans for the fall.

Dick Goodman, elected to the panel in 2009 and an avid booster of the city's arts effort, wants to secure a full four-year term. He is filling out the term of former Council Member Jeannine Rispin, who resigned Post 2 in mid-term.

“Suwanee is a great community because its citizens are enterprising, imaginative, and farsighted," Goodman said Tuesday in a media release. "And they rightfully expect their city and its government to be as well."

Council Member Jimmy Burnette recently declared his intention to run for mayor. That leaves his council spot open for the Nov. 8 election. Qualifying is Aug. 29-31. All voting will be at City Hall.

Goodman is chairman of Suwanee's Public Arts Commission and led efforts for SculpTour, an outdoor, walkable tour of art objects located around the Town Center area. He also is on the Board of Trustees of the Gwinnett County Public Library. He also has been selected for the 2011-12 class of Leadership Gwinnett, the Gwinnett Chamber’s leadership training program.

He emphasizes job growth as a priority for his next term.

"Citizens expect a vibrant community," Goodman said after Tuesday's City Council meeting. He wants to lure more jobs "that can provide a livelihood for our citizens."

Goodman is a freelance marketing communications writer who has operated his own consulting business since 1984. He is married and lives in Suwanee's Stonecypher community.
