Suwanee Days Planning To Begin

City officials begin the process of expanding the signature event.

Suwanee officials are beginning the official push to making the city's signature festival a two-day event.

In a Facebook post, city officials said in part:

Join us on the Suwanee DAYS planning committee. As we prepare to take our biggest event of the year to a TWO DAY event, we need YOUR HELP!

The post goes on to say that a planning meeting for the expanded festival will be held Monday, Jan. 13, at City Hall at 6:30 p.m.

City officials said in November that they were ready to expand the mega-fest, which dates to 1984, to two days. Calls from the public were particularly strong to do so after the 2013 event, which was marred by heavy rain.

However, Economic Development Director Denise Brinson said in November that the rain was not the reason for expanding the event.

The weekend will be the same -- the third weekend in September. However, the expanded festival likely will have no fireworks and no headline concert.
