SUWANEE NEWS WEEK: Newspaper Makes News at UGA ...

It was a week when news was the news in Northeast Georgia. Let's take a look back:

The Red and Black, the student-run newspaper at the University of Georgia, was beset by conflict. The student editors walked out in protest of what they felt was excessive editorial control by board members. By week's end, the board had apologized, and the editor was willing to re-apply for the top job.

The city began accepting proposals to display its 9/11 artifact, called Remembrance. Officials want it displayed in the Town Center area by Sept. 11, 2013.

The city's dining scene continues to expand, as two more eateries made plans to open their doors.

The alternative rock band that rose to fame in the '90s put on a show before a sizable crowd in Town Center Park on Aug. 11.

Jim Donnan, head football coach of the Georgia Bulldogs from 1996-2000, was accused by the federal Securities and Exchange Commission of participating in a Ponzi scheme. Former Dallas Cowboys coach Barry Switzer was among the coaches that Donnan reportedly asked to invest in the scheme.
