Suwanee Planning Strategic Vision Roundtables

City officials are recruiting for the decision-making phase.

Suwanee officials are preparing to begin the second phase of their strategic vision process by recruiting residents to serve on "roundtables."

The 20/20 Vision was launched last month with an open house at Town Center near City Hall. So far, almost 300 visitors have stopped in to offer their input about what they'd like to see the city be like in the year 2020.

Now the mayor and five council members are recruiting people to serve on the roundtables to begin assessing the data received from the open house.

About 300 people are sought for the roundtables, said Jessica Roth, assistant to city manager Marty Allen.

"The roundtables are where the decisions are made," Roth said. "The open house is to build data."

So far, the input from the open house, which ends July 28 with the monthly Toast @ Town Center event, unofficially shows that residents naturally want to live closer to Town Center, what amounts to Suwanee's downtown area. The zone for people still wanting to live from 15-30 minutes from the area in 2020 shows the biggest decrease on a wall map designed to gather input.

Also, open house data shows the most "likes" for PlayTown Park, Suwanee Creek Park, and Sims Lake Park. Residents also feel that the city should target the most spending for the I-85/Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road intersection, White Street Park and the Pierce's Corner area of Old Town.

Each roundtable group and facilitator will stay together throughout the process and are expected to meet in restaurants, local businesses, and residents’ homes approximately four times for about 90-120 minutes each session, according to the city.

Anyone wanting to serve on the strategic vision roundtables should contact Roth at City Hall, 770-945-8996, or jroth@suwanee.com, by Aug. 5.
