Suwanee Plans Arbor Day Tree Planting Event

The 2013 ceremony will be held March 16 at Sims Lake Park.

Suwanee takes its parks seriously, and it will again hold a ceremony, with public participation welcome, to spruce one up.

According to a city news release, Suwanee will hold a tree planting ceremony at Sims Lake Park on Saturday, March 16, beginning at 9 a.m. Japanese maple trees will be the choice this year.

Volunteers are needed to help plant the trees in the landscaped area along the lake where the Sunset sculpture sits, the release said. That sculpture was installed last year by the city after it was purchased by the Rohloff family and then donated to the city.

The planting area would be across the lake from the park's main entrance, but the sculpture and area are visible from the main parking area.

The tree planting event is being held in conjunction with Arbor Day. Volunteers should contact Daniel Robinson at drobinson@suwanee.com.
