Suwanee Restaurant Inspections: Spiced Right BBQ

Check before you go. How did this restaurant fare in recent health inspections?

Spiced Right BBQ in Suwanee got varied results on two recent inspections by officials with the Gwinnett/Newton/Rockdale Health Departments.

The eatery on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road received a "73/C" rating on December 11, 2012, then got a perfect "100/A" rating two days later.

In the December 11 inspection, some of the noted violations were:

  • "Container of bread stored on top of trash can."
  • "Employee drinks in a glass cup with no lid or straw stored on prep table and in disposable cup with lid and no straw."
  • "Employees changing gloves to handle ready-to-eat foods without washing hands before putting on new gloves."
  • "Cold-held potentially hazardous foods not maintained below 41 (degrees) F; no time controls/documentation in place."

Of course, no violations were noted in the December 13 inspection.

The "C" rating was the first time Spiced Right had received a rating below "B." To view both inspections, click here.

I have eaten there before, but really liked it better when it was a Shane's. However, getting a C rating and then two days later an A rating, because they happened to "clean up" the issues that occurred, doesn't mean that the general malaise towards keeping things orderly isn't going on still.

I have eaten there before...it was ok. I prefer Shane's, which Spiced Right replaced. If you read the actual inspection reports, some of the infractions are no big deal. But if a restaurant corrects these, their rating could go up. I wonder if they do another follow up, perhaps a month or two later, to determine that they are remaining on track.

I agree with David. They did a quickie clean up, but who is to know it won't stay clean.

Ordered three salads today all three came out with old brown lettuce and soft not very red tomatoes almost like the salads were peer made sitting in the fridge. The guy at the front counter was rude and not friendly. Everyone working seemed to be lost and not knowing what to do. Needs new emp or management t
