Gwinnett County's chief economist, Alfie Meek, is leaving for a position at Georgia Tech.
Meek joined the county in 2002 to oversee economic development, forecasting and research. He also was behind the Gwinnett Economics report on Facebook.
Meek said in a news release, “I have met and worked alongside some amazing individuals and community leaders, and I hope that they will accept my offer to continue to engage and assist this community any way I can.”

At Georgia Tech, he will be director of Community Innovation Services for the Enterprise Innovation Institute. He has a doctorate in agricultural economics from The University of Georgia, a master’s in business economics from Georgia State University and a bachelor’s in economics from Georgia Tech. He also teaches a course in advanced multivariate statistics at Georgia Gwinnett College.
Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash said in a release, “Throughout his career here, Alfie has played an important role in many of the financial and economic successes we’ve experienced. His work will have a lasting and positive impact on the county. We wish him well in his new endeavor.”
