Update Due on Discolored Water in Suwanee

City monitoring some residents' problems.

Suwanee City Council officials are due to get an update Thursday on efforts to treat discolored water that some homeowners are getting from their taps.

City officials are monitoring the situation that has led some residents of the Stonecypher subdivision to complain. Their situation dates back to when the homes came on the city's system in 2004-05.

The city's water system serves some 330 homes. Officials explain that it is healthy and regularly tested, and they acknowledge that naturally present manganese likely leads to the brown discoloration.

Some say they have had clothes ruined during laundry by the discolored water. No health problems have been reported.

City Manager Marty Allen said the city is in the process of making adjustments to the system to sequester the manganese. The city held three public meetings in March for updates: two were not attended, and the third had about 10 people show up.
