Election Under Way To Choose Gwinnett Commission Chair

The special election to fill the unexpired term of former chairman Bannister is Tuesday.

By Tuesday night, Gwinnett County may have a new commission chairman or chairwoman.

The special election to fill the unexpired portion of former Gwinnett County Chairman Charles Bannister’s term is scheduled for Tuesday, March 15.

Gwinnett County voters are heading to the polls to decide which of the four candidates –  – will get the job.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will be open to 7 p.m. To find your polling location, visit the Georgia Secretary of State's voter information website.

Turnout was light at one polling place Tuesday morning in Suwanee. A poll worker at Epiphany Lutheran Church said fewer than 12 people had voted as of 9:15 a.m., out of about 3,000 in the precinct.

The special election results will be available on Patch, the Gwinnett County website and TVgwinnett on election night. A runoff, if necessary, will be held April 12.
