Do You Trust the Federal Government's Ability to Handle Problems?

What needs to be done to improve the public's confidence in Congress and the White House?

A recent Gallup poll determined that the public’s trust in the federal government being able to do its business is at an all-time low.

Poll showed approval ratings for the government’s handling of domestic (42%) and international (49%) problems that were lower than during the Watergate controversy in the 1970s and the financial crisis of 2007-08.

And those numbers were from a month ago (the poll was released on Sept. 13).

Who knows what they might say since the federal government shutdown and this week’s debates in Congress with the debt ceiling deadline looming.

Tuesday, it appeared that progress has been made on reopening the government and extending the debt ceiling, but there's still disagreement.

The House Republicans proposed a deal Tuesday that was said to be in response to a similar bill being considered in the Senate. The biggest difference in the House deal is that it includes changes to Obamacare, another hot-button issue that has divided people along party lines.
