Graduations Nearing for Suwanee, Gwinnett Schools

Final exams, ceremonies set for next week.

The 2011-12 Gwinnett school year is drawing to a close, with final exams and high school graduations set for next week.

Suwanee's three high schools will hold commencement exercises next week, with Gwinnett's high schools having 9,843 seniors on track to graduate. will become the first high school to hold graduation ceremonies at Coolray Field.

The last day of finals is Wednesday, May 23. The Suwanee schools' graduation schedule is: 

  • Collins Hill, May 24, 8 a.m., Gwinnett Arena.
  • North Gwinnett, May 25, 10 a.m., Coolray Field.
  • Peachtree Ridge, May 25, 8 p.m., Gwinnett Arena.

According to GCPS, Brookwood High graduates the largest class this year with 779 students, followed by with 757 graduates, and Mill Creek High with 714.

GCPS CEO/Superintendent Alvin Wilbanks said, "We are especially pleased with the number of Gwinnett graduates who earned their place among the country’s most prestigious academic ranks, including 10 National Merit Scholars (and there may be more), 15 National Achievement Scholars, and 26 Georgia Scholars. Full-tuition grants were awarded to 11 Gates Millennium Scholars and three Questbridge Scholars. Congratulations to these and all of the graduates in the Class of 2012!”
