Suwanee Students Receive National Merit College-Sponsored Scholarships

Several Suwanee students learned this week that they are recipients of National Merit college-sponsored scholarships.

The students -- each living in Suwanee -- are:

• Wilson Weichen Gao, a graduating senior at Northview High (Fulton), who plans to attend Georgia Tech* 

• Abhishek K. Goswami, a North Gwinnett High School graduating senior, who plans to medicine at Georgia Tech

• Joohyeun Kim, of Suwanee, a graduating senior at South Forsyth High (Forsyth), who plans to attend study neuroscience at Vanderbilty University*

• Amanda G. Wall, a North Gwinnett High School graduating senior, who plans to study computer science at Georgia Tech

In addition to the aforementioned students, three more attending Suwanee schools but living in another city, received scholarships. They are:

• Nathaniel Bradley Adams, a graduating senior at Peachtree Ridge High School, who plans to study chemical engineering at Auburn University

• Manav Dutta, a graduating senior at Collins Hill High School, who plans to study computer science at Georgia Tech

• Hammad A. Khalid, a Peachtree Ridge High School graduating senior, who plans to study cardiology at the University of Georgia

About 20 Gwinnett County students received the award, which is financed by colleges and universities. There were 2,500 winners across the country.

The scholarships provide $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.

An additional group of scholars will be announced in July, which will bring the total number of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship recipients in the 2013 competition to 4,500.
