Suwanee Senior Students Win Gates Scholarships

Students from Collins Hill, North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge will have their tuition paid for because of their achievements.

Three Suwanee high school seniors have learned that their college undergraduate tuition will be paid for, as they have been named Gates Millennium Scholars for 2012.

Vivek Kamlesh Patel of , Chan Mi Lim of and David Emmanuel Wade Daniels of were among 11 Gwinnett seniors honored, according to a Gwinnett Schools' news release.

Patel plans to attend University of Georgia for pre-med, Lin plans to attend Boston College for English and economics, and Daniels plans to attend Oxford College at Emory University for biology.

The program, which is funded by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and administered by the United Negro College Fund, promotes academic excellence for outstanding minority low-income students. Bill Gates is the co-founder of Microsoft.

Honorees were selected based on a review of their academic record, community involvement and extracurricular activities, and their families’ need for financial assistance, the release noted.
