GCPS To Tentatively Adopt Budget April 19

Board work session and District I meeting also planned at Grayson High.

The Gwinnett County school system, also dealing with a controversial redistricting involving school clusters in Suwanee and Duluth, plans a tentative approval of its 2012 budget soon.

The Gwinnett school board plans to tentatively adopt the $1.7 billion fiscal year 2012 budget on Tuesday, April 19, during a meeting and work session at Grayson High. The session is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.

Formal approval still would be required after any tentative vote.

The school board also will hold a budget work session Saturday, April 16, at 8:30 a.m. at its Suwanee headquarters. The system has proposed a budget that is 6.1 percent less than FY 2011.

The GCPS budget calls for no layoffs, but no hiring except for critical needs positions. Also, there would be no cost-of-living raises.
