Moms Talk: March 16

How far would you go to keep your children in a particular school?

In the last several weeks, the Patch articles addressing the rezoning of the Duluth and Peachtree Ridge clusters had many people expressing concern and displeasure. This is due to Peachtree Ridge HS and Hull MS being over capacity. The schools that will be affected in this redistricting are Duluth and Peachtree Ridge High Schools, Hull Middle, Duluth Middle, Mason Elementary, Chesney Elementary, and Harris Elementary School.

Redistricting is also happening in other parts of the county. A new middle school in the Central Gwinnett Cluster, Moore Middle, will take some of the students that were formally feeding into Richards Middle.Β  Shifting in the Shiloh cluster will move some children from Partee Elementary School to Annistown Elementary School.

As this redistricting is to take place for the school year 2011- 2012, there are families who are scrambling. People moving to keep their children in the school they have been attending, or one that they feel is "better" is not unheard of.

As a parent, how far would you go for your child's education? Would you apply for a transfer and if it is granted, drive your child to and from every day? Would you move your family into the district that you prefer?
