Teachers from each of Suwanee's high schools are among those in the running for 2013 Teacher of the Year for Gwinnett County schools, according to a GCPS news release
Dr. Dora Bell, math teacher at Collins Hill High (grades 9-12), McCall Grosso, language arts teacher at North Gwinnett High (grade 10), and Dean Landers, physics teacher at Peachtree Ridge High (grades 11-12) are in the initial round of competition.
This year’s 131 local school candidates will move into the next round of the process for the systemwide honor, GCPS said. Later in September, the group will be narrowed to 25 semifinalists. Then, six finalists will be chosen in mid-October. The annual Teacher of the Year banquet will be held on Thursday, November 1.

“Being selected at the local level means that other individuals in the profession recognize the instructional expertise and communal value the local TOTY brings to their school,” Nikki Mouton, Gwinnett’s executive director of staff development, said in the release. “This is an opportunity to highlight the attention to excellence the entire school has as their TOTY represents the phenomenal instruction and professionalism taking place throughout their building.”
