After the traditional summer break, sessions started early.

Updated 3:00 p.m., Aug. 8, 2011

The early morning ritual known as school began again Monday in Suwanee for Gwinnett County students.

Students at Collins Hill High, Peachtree Ridge High and North Gwinnett High were expected for class beginning at 7:10 a.m., just a few moments after the scheduled sunrise. School ends at 2:10 p.m. for high schoolers. Middle and elementary students have different schedules.

The state's largest system expects about 162,400 students this year, an increase of about 1,700 over last year. The first break for students comes on Labor Day, Sept. 5.

It also is the first school year for a redistricting between the Peachtree Ridge Cluster and the Duluth Cluster. In April, the Gwinnett school board changed the attendance zones for both clusters to relieve overcrowding at Peachtree Ridge High and Hull Middle. About 500 students were affected.
