Suwanee Teacher To Lead Art Event

A North Gwinnett teacher and several GCPS students are honored.

A North Gwinnett High teacher and nine Gwinnett County Public Schools students will be featured at an upcoming statewide art event in Atlanta.

Debi West, a visual arts teacher, will speak before supporters of the art education community on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Georgia Youth Art Month in Atlanta. The event will be held at the Sloppy Floyd Building. This year's theme is "Art Shapes the eARTh."

Three North Gwinnett students -- Rose Lee, Kimberly Wang and Alicia Howard -- also will be among those participating.Β

West's speech will be to supporters of the art education community during the Georgia Art Educators Association Capitol Art Exhibit Reception.

A GCPS teacher for two decades, West previously taught at Sugar Hill Elementary, Level Creek Elementary and Rock Springs Elementary. She has an Educational Specialist degree from UGA.

The students also are invited to attend 2011 National Youth Art Month ceremonies in Washington, D.C., in March.
