Youth Leadership Group Forming in Suwanee

The program is designed for high school students in the Suwanee area.

Two North Gwinnett High students are behind the formation of a new youth leadership group that will include students from school clusters in the Suwanee area.

Paige Brinson and Ryan Hilscher have led the launch of the Suwanee Youth Leaders program, a nine-month initiative that will begin in January 2014. It is designed for sophomores and juniors in the North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge clusters, as well as home-schooled and private school students.

According to Economic Development Director Denise Brinson, Suwanee is developing the program in response to the City’s 20/20 Vision strategic plan, which calls for encouraging youth involvement in civic and community planning.

“We want our youth to have a strong voice and active role in planning the City’s success,” Brinson said in a city news release. “Young people are the future of our community, and we want to engage their energy, enthusiasm, and ability to think outside the box. Our program is meant to complement programs offered through the schools while also providing a direct link to civic and community leaders.”

Paige Brinson is Denise Brinson's daughter. Ryan Hilscher is son of City Council member Beth Hilscher.

Application deadline is October 25, and applications are available on the city website.
