Falcons To Scrimmage in Gwinnett on Friday

The popular 'Friday Night Lights' series continues when the Atlanta Falcons make the trip from Flowery Branch to Norcross High for a full-scale scrimmage Aug. 5.

Are you ready for some football?

If not, maybe the Atlanta Falcons' scrimmage at Norcross High School next Friday night, Aug. 5, will get you pumped. The price of admission is certainly enough to get everyone excited. It's free!

Now that NFL players and owners have settled their labor dispute and Commissioner Roger Goodell has declared that "football is back," Coach Mike Smith will bring his Falcons to Norcross High stadium for Kia Motors "Friday Night Lights." The gates open at 6 p.m. and the Falcons will take the field at 7:30.

During the live scrimmage, several players, including the Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan and certain position players, will be wearing microphones so that fans can get a feel for what it's like to get smacked down by a 300-pound onrushing lineman decked out in full gear.

This will be the fourth in the Friday Night Lights series. The Falcons scrimmaged at Mill Creek High School in 2008, Brookwood High in 2009 and North Gwinnett last year. Each stadium was filled to capacity, so better make plans to be there early.

While the Falcons will be the featured attraction, They won't be the only one. The event includes a fan fest with interactive inflatable games, sponsor activation, a post-event autograph session and a spectacular fireworks show.

Smith, a Suwanee resident, said his team enjoys the series.

"This is a special event for not only our fans, but for our players as well," Smith said. "Our guys love going back to their roots and playing under the lights at a high school field every year. This event provides us the opportunity to reach out to the community and give our fans a chance to get up close and personal with our team as we prepare for the 2011 season."
