Gwinnett Braves Close 2012 Season on Labor Day

Several players were recalled recently by Atlanta.

The Gwinnett Braves will say farewell to the 2012 season on Labor Day when they take on Norfolk in Virginia at 12:15 p.m.

Pitcher Sean Gilmartin, Atlanta's No. 1 draft pick in 2011, will start for the G-Braves, who carry a 62-81 record into the final game.

However, outfielder Ernesto Mejia recently was named the International League Rookie of the Year for 2012. It is the third straight year that a G-Braves player has received that honor, after 1B Freddie Freeman (2010) and P Julio Teheran (2011). Before Sunday's game, Mejia had 24 HR, 92 RBI and a .296 batting average.

Also last week, several players were optioned to or purchased by the Atlanta Braves from Gwinnett: P Peter Moylan, 1B Lyle Overbay, OF Jose Constanza, C J.C. Boscan. Major league teams can expand their rosters on Sept. 1.
