Gwinnett Braves Give Grant to Suwanee Arts Group

The $1,000 donation goes to the North Gwinnett Arts Association.

The Gwinnett Braves, who give a monthly grant to community organizations in the area, have selected the North Gwinnett Arts Organization of Suwanee as the latest recipient.

In recognition of this month’s Salute to the Arts theme, the group will receive $1,000 from the team to help provide students with a platform for their artwork to be viewed, as well as to establish an art ambassador program for artists of all media, according to a G-Braves news release.

Vickie Johnson, president of the North Gwinnett Arts Association, wants to begin a school sponsorship program, but she needs help from the community.

“Title 1 schools will be the first recipients of this funding, and the arts program at Central Gwinnett High School has been selected to receive assistance in promoting student recognition while encouraging the transition to college for students who have talent and desire to be involved in the arts industry,” Johnson said in the release.

With these funds, the following work will take place:

  • cabinets will be painted and modified to serve as a display space for 3-D artwork;
  • pedestals will be purchased to accommodate larger pottery pieces;
  • a hanging system will be put in place to allow the display of 2-D artwork;
  • a sign will be constructed to designate the chosen area as a student gallery;
  • a senior art show will be held to showcase the gallery.

"Grant funds will allow us to provide a list to Gwinnett County high school art teachers of local artists who are available for visits and their media of specialty,” Johnson said. “Artists who participate in the program will then be given mileage reimbursement also through grant funds.”
