Gwinnett Gladiators Fall to Greenville

Gwinnett now heads out on a three-game road trip.

The Gwinnett Gladiators lost Saturday, 4-2, to the Greenville Road Warriors in front of a crowd of 6,716 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center, according to team reports. The Gladiators came back from a two-goal deficit, but it was not enough.

At 8:14 into the opening period, Greenville defensemen Cullen Eddy put a slap shot past Gwinnett keeper Jeff Jakaitis. Defensemen Wes Cunningham put another one in the net seconds before the first period came to an end.

Just 2:45 into the second period, Gladiators forward Nikita Kashirsky started behind his own net, weaved through the defense, and got one past opposing goaltender Nic Riopel to bring the Glads back within one, with Brad Miller getting the assist.Β

Rookie defenseman Corey Fienhage helped even the score after his slapper from the point was tipped by Scott Fleming for the first goal of his professional career, tying the score at 2. Greenville's Kale Kerbashian added what proved to be the game winner, to put the Road Warriors up 3-2 through two periods.

The Gladiators (2-2 for the young season) now head north for a three-game road trip, with the first game Wednesday against Trenton.
