Isaac May Affect North Gwinnett Football Event

Pine Forest of Pensacola, which was to play Stephenson, reportedly has pulled out of the Saturday game in Suwanee.

The upcoming multi-team football event at in Suwanee may be affected by Hurricane Isaac, according to a published report.

Pine Forest of Pensacola, Fla., which was to play Stephenson of DeKalb County on Saturday (Sept. 1) in Suwanee, has pulled out because of the storm, according to Georgia High School Football Daily.

Organizers initially reached out to Lincoln of Tallahassee, Fla., as a replacement. Lincoln, which won a state title in 2010, had its game with another Pensacola school canceled.

Chairman Ken Manning said, "We feel bad for Stephenson. It isn't their fault. The storm has very little impact on us (weather-wise), but it still could affect our weekend (of football)."

Pine Forest was to play Stephenson at 3 p.m. North Gwinnett is to play A.C. Flora of South Carolina at 6 p.m., and Valdosta plays North Augusta (S.C.) at noon.

"It's very important to play if we can," Stephenson coach Ron Gartrell said. "We played our scrimmage early, so it would be three weeks if we had to wait until next week."
