Norcross Outlasts Colquitt County To Reach State Final

The Blue Devils are headed back to the Georgia Dome.

In a game that turned into a defensive struggle, it was the Norcross Blue Devils who prevailed, winning 14-9 over the Colquitt County Packers on Friday night.

The win means a second straight trip to the Georgia Dome to play for the state championship. Last year Norcross defeated Lovejoy 21-14 to win its first championship.

This time, the Blue Devils will face North Gwinnett of Suwanee, who beat McEachern 27-21 in its semifinal game Friday.

A strong showing by the Blue Devils defense kept the Packers out of the end zone the first half. Colquitt could only manage three field goals in the first two quarters of the game.

Then with just a little over three minutes in the first half, a 55-yard run by quarterback A.J. Bush, who was finally tackled on the half-yard line, set up the Blue Devils' first and only score in the first half.

Lightning in the area led to a rain delay in the third quarter. When the teams took the field again, only Norcross would score. Another touchdown gave the Blue Devils a 14-9 lead, which they never relinquished.
