North Gwinnett No. 2 for Norcross Game

It's still early in the 2012 season, but the term "showdown" could apply to Friday's (Sept. 14) Norcross-North Gwinnett football game in Suwanee.

The Bulldogs are 2-0 and ranked as high as No. 2 statewide in one poll (Maxwell). Norcross also is 2-0, ranked No. 7 by Maxwell, and has a win over Gwinnett rival Parkview to its credit. The game will be televised at 7:30 p.m. by Georgia Public Broadcasting, and streamed live at gpb.org.

The region opener for both teams could well decide the eventual champion. North has won the last three region titles, and Norcross won in 2006 and 2007.

North has adapted well to a new quarterback in 2012. Michael Haynes is 31 for 46 passing for 361 yards, and he has rushed for 113 yards.

Norcross can counter with preseason all-state RB Alvin Kamara.

And who can forget that memorable matchup in 2011? Norcross led 22-0 at one point, before North stormed back to tie the game. Then, with about a minute to play, .
