North Gwinnett's 'O' Takes on Norcross' 'D'

Saturday's state title game features teams with contrasting styles.

Saturday's state title game between North Gwinnett and Norcross features the classic confrontation -- strong offense vs. strong defense.

The Bulldogs run a balanced, spread-formation offense led by quarterback Hayden Sphire. Noteworthy is the fact that North's only loss, to Suwanee rival Collins Hill, was when Sphire was injured. North defeated Norcross 36-17 during the regular season.

Norcross, the defending state champ, touts a strong defense. According to Georgia High School Football Daily, the Blue Devils have held six playoff teams to less than 10 points during their 11-game winning streak.

North running back C.J. Leggett averaged 89.4 yards per game during the regular season, and has averaged 183.5 in the playoffs, according to ghsfdaily.com.

For Norcross, linebacker Kevin Mouhon, who is committed to play at Tennessee, is the leading tackler with 100 first hits and 25 stops behind the line of scrimmage.

Game time is 8:30 p.m. at the Georgia Dome.
