Suwanee Sizzles for Showdown

Activity begins at Bulldogs' home stadium long before Friday's victory over Peachtree Ridge.

If there are marbles anywhere in Suwanee, this one was for all of them.

Long before Β defeated Peachtree Ridge on Friday in the regular season finale, Tom Robinson Memorial Stadium was whirling with activity.

Coldplay and country music played in the press box. The Peachtree Ridge High band played Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance."

"Mr. York, do you copy," Chris Culpepper of the North Gwinnett School Cluster said into his handheld radio. He was directing logistics, which included giving directions to the Peachtree Ridge football team bus driver outside the stadium.

"When the cheerleaders bus arrives, give me a yell on the radio," Culpepper said.

The smell of hot dogs and burgers was prominent, too. Belinda Fortenberry, by day a worker in the North Gwinnett cafeteria, had a couple of large grills fired up to get the eats ready for the concession stand.

"This (Peachtree Ridge game) and the first few games are big," she said. "It's Senior Night."

Nearby, several people were taking souvenir clothing from boxes and preparing them for sale on display tables.

Kim Cooper of the North Gwinnett Touchdown Club said, "It's so exciting. This area (souvenirs) is so alive ... people come to see me. Business is always good. I don't get to see much of the game."

Since Halloween is not long past, it gave some ready garb for Senior Night dress-up, such as Marina Tewfik.

"I already had the costume," she said.

Georgia Public Broadcasting set up early for its telecast.

Said commentator Gil Tyree, "We're rehearsing."
