Gwinnett May Get PGA Champions Tour Event in 2013

A news conference with some Champions Tour players is set for October at TPC Sugarloaf.

It's looking more and more like pro golf will tee up again in Gwinnett in 2013.

Gwinnett tourism officials and the PGA Champions Tour have scheduled a news conference for Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the prestigious TPC Sugarloaf Course in Duluth. And Gwinnett officials already have acknowledged that they were discussing an event with the PGA Champions Tour for 2013.

The invitation for Tuesday's news conference called it an "important announcement" and said that Corey Pavin and Larry Nelson -- both Champions Tour regulars -- would be in attendance.

The Champions Tour, administered by the PGA Tour, is for pro golfers at least 50 years old. It features many big names, such as Fred Couples and Tom Kite.

Gwinnett has been without a pro golf tour stop of any kind for several years.
