SEC Reiterates Intent for 13 teams in 2012

Commissioner also has details on the television contracts for the league.

SEC Commissioner Mike Slive reiterated this week that he expects the conference to have 13 teams in the 2012-13 sports calendar year.

“I really can’t emphasize this enough. This has all been about Texas A&M,” Slive said in a conference call with Texas A&M President R. Loftin Bowen, reported by The Associated Press. “We have not initiated any conversations with any institution. This was about Texas A&M understanding that some of the complexities that 13 teams brings, and that’s really it.”

The commissioner also said the league will begin talks this fall to upgrade the current 15-year TV contracts with CBS and ESPN. These are by far the most lucrative for any conference in college football.
