Collins Hill Girls Soccer team defeats Mill Creek to claim Region 7-AAAAA championship.

COLLINS HILL

Girls Soccer

Mariah Dickey scored the winning goal as No. 6 Collins Hill, the state's sixth ranked girls team, defeated No. 4 Mill Creek 1-0 Friday at Mill Creek Community Stadium to claim its first Region 7-AAAAA championship in five years.

Dickey scored at the 32-minute mark, but was offside and the goal was nullified. She got another opportunity about eight minutes later, however, and made the most of it, kicking the ball just over the outstretched fingertips of Mill Creek goalie Tessa Lukens for the game winner.

Earlier in the week, Dickey scored Collins Hill's only goal off a feed from Lindsay Leonardo to lift the Eagles to a 1-0 win over Norcross. Calli Star saved five shots at keeper for the Eagles (10-5, 5-1).

Girls Tennis

Collins Hill split a pair of matches this week, beating North Gwinnett 3-2 in the second round of the Region 7-AAAAA tournament but then lost to Peachtree Ridge 3-0.

Jillian Estes and Abbie Wehr posted singles wins for the Eagles, and Cassie and Maddie Owensby won at No. 2 doubles. Shannon Bettiol picked up a win at No. 1 singles for North while teammates Chelsea Koch and Izzy Balsvage won at No. 1 doubles.

Baseball

Brandon McKeen's three-run homer in the sixth inning helped Collins Hill defeat Mountain View 7-5 Monday. Nate Williams added a pair of hits. Cameron Jones was the winning pitcher while Wayne Williams got the save. 

PEACHTREE RIDGE

Boys Tennis

Both Peachtree Ridge teams claimed Region 7-AAAAA tennis titles on Thursday,

Peachtree Ridge won the boys championship Thursday, beating Collins Hill 3-2. The match came down to the No. 2 doubles where senior Austin Penman and freshman Jasith Choppara outlasted Peyton Rushing and Marcus Maloney in a three-set showdown.

Girls Tennis

Not to be outdone, the girls, who haven't lost a match against Georgia competition this year, defeated Mill Creek 3-0 to claim their championship.

Jessica Northcutt and Mary Jeremiah won singles matches, and Ali Mills and Abby Owens capped the shutout win in their doubles match. The victory sets up a showdown with state powerhouse Walton in the quarterfinals. Walton eliminated Peachtree Ridge in the first round of the state playoffs last year. 

Boys Soccer

Peachtree Ridge defeated Duluth 5-1 Tuesday in Region 7-AAAAA soccer. Chris Cook scored a pair of goals to lead the Lions (13-2, 4-2). Jeremy Rector, Michael Valenzuela and Derek Bryant each contributed a goal. Darryl Sack and Mitch Kupstas shared time at keeper with seven saves.

Girls Soccer

Peachtree Ridge out dueled Duluth in penalty kicks 4-3 on Tuesday night to take a hard fought 3-2 win over Duluth. Shelby Jennings and Emily Edmond scored in regulation for the Lions (9-8, 4-2). Baillie Burmaster, Katie Fitton, Allana Dineen and Julianna Luther provided the goals during the penalty kicks.

Boys Lacrosse

Peachtree Ridge defeated Wesleyan 15-5 Saturday in the Gold Bracket final of the Gwinnett County Lacrosse Tournament at Gary Pickle Park.

Five consecutive goals by the Lions (11-2) at the end of the first period sealed Wesleyan's fate.

Tyler Botts led the scoring with four goals, followed by Cory Hall with three and Michael Ruffcorn with two. Goalie Greg Rose had a big day for the Lions, recording 10 saves.

Earlier in the week, Ruffcorn paced a Lions juggernaut with six goals and three assists as Peachtree Ridge routed Duluth 17-2. Hall and Botts had three goals each for the Lions, while Steven Lee finished with two goals and two assists.

Baseball

Chris Raash turned in an outstanding game, both offensively and defensively Monday as Norcross defeated Peachtree Ridge 3-2.

Raash tossed a complete game, striking out six and holding the Lions to just two runs. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in a run. Tanner Maloof and Will Paschal went 2-for-4 and Adam Greenstein was 2-for-3 for the Blue Devils (10-9, 6-5).

NORTH GWINNETT

Boys Soccer

SUWANEE ― The Bulldogs beat Mountain View Tuesday as four North players scored goals. Roberto Hinojosa, Alejandro Arroyave, Andres Pena and Kevin Murphy all scored for the Bulldogs (9-7, 2-3).

Girls Soccer

SUWANEE ― Lauren Harriman and Taylor Burns scored two goals each to lead North Gwinnett (13-3, 4-1) to an 8-0 shutout over Region 7-AAAAA rival Mountain View Tuesday.(13-3, 4-1). Jordan Goldring, Abbi Edwards and Caroline Gualdoni chipped in with one goal and one assist each.
