Olympics 2012: Gwinnett's Weir Wins Bronze Medal in Freestyle

Brookwood graduate Amanda Weir won the medal during the first full day of the Olympics.

Amanda Weir, along with the rest of her swim team -- Lia Neal, Natalie Coughlin and anchor Allison Schmitt -- won the Olympics bronze medal during the 400 meter freestyle Saturday (July 28).

Weir, from Brookwood High in Gwinnett, and Schmitt both swam for the Georgia Bulldogs.

They came in behind the Netherlands, while Australia won gold.  The Netherlands was just a half second ahead of Team USA.
