Suwanee, Gwinnett May Have Storms on Fourth of July

Lighting, hail and flooding are possible on Independence Day.

Severe weather could put a damper on fireworks and other Fourth of July festivities in the Suwanee area this week.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Alert for Gwinnett County. Forecasts mention the possibility of flooding, hail and "frequent dangerous lighting" on Tuesday through Friday (July 2-5).

"Persons planning outdoor activities during this time ... including Fourth of July events ... should monitdor the latest forecasts," the alert said.

The alert also said:

VERY HEAVY RAINFALL...FLOODING...FREQUENT DANGEROUS LIGHTNING...WIND GUSTS UP TO 60 MPH OR GREATER AND LARGE HAIL WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH STORMS TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY.

Several Fourth of July events are planned in the Gwinnett area, including fireworks shows at the Mall of Georgia, Lake Lanier and Coolray Field.
