Snellville UMC Hosts Disaster Simulation Training

Learn what to expect and how to respond in the event of a natural disaster.

Organizers of a disaster simulation exercise Saturday in Snellville are hoping to empower participants with knowledge of what to expect and how to respond in the event of a natural disaster.

, collaborating with the Gwinnett County Citizens Corps Council Faith-Based Committee and the North Georgia Disaster Relief Committee, will host the event 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. The event will include disaster simulation drills centered on the recovery and early relief stages of a natural disaster, such as last in north Georgia.

Event organizer Glenn Edebohls, who saw , said more than 200 people are expected from groups like the Gwinnett County EMA and several faith-based organizations. The event is free and open to people who want to learn about what takes place in the hours and days after a disaster.

"After Ringgold last year I was asked by the Gwinnett County Emergency Management Agency to form a faith-based committee, to bring awareness, preparedness before the time of need of a emergency and disaster, to the people of our county," Edebohls said in an email to Patch on the genesis of the event.

"This event is open to everyone and is a opportunity for your established United Methodist Committee on Relief-Emergency Response Teams to have additional training, and for your church staff or members to come and learn the importance of awareness and preparedness before the time of need arises. Do you know how your church or your family would handle a time of disaster need? Come learn how to become prepared."
