Original post, 6:32 a.m.:
The snowstorm that closed Gwinnett County schools and paralyzed many metro Atlanta roadways is gone. But the effects remain on Wednesday (Jan. 29).

Here's the latest:

  • WINTER STORM WARNING: The National Weather Service has extended the Winter Storm Warning until 1 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 29). The warning said in part: "... travel will continue to be dangerous or impossible. Only travel in an emergency."
  • ROADWAY GRIDLOCK: The state Department of Transportation said in a news release that the storm "caused employers and schools to release workers and students at the same time Tuesday afternoon, resulting in gridlock on Metro roadways. ... While isolated icy areas remain this morning, Department officials are hopeful minimal traffic Wednesday will allow for a full recovery. "
  • CLOSINGS IN GWINNETT: Trash and recycling collection in unincorporated Gwinnett County will not take place on Wednesday. For the rest of the week, normal collections will be delayed by one day. If your trash and recycling was not collected Tuesday, it will be collected on Thursday, according to a Gwinnett County announcement.
