'Moderate to Heavy' Rainfall Still Forecast for Suwanee, Gwinnett

A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for the area on July 5.

The worst may be over, but the Gwinnett area still could get some serious storm activity through the weekend.

A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for the area through 8 p.m. Friday (July 5), meaning that flooding could occur, according to the National Weather Service.

Also, the latest special weather statement (issued July 4, 8:16 p.m.) says the heavy rain could continue.

The weather statement says:

THERE WILL STILL BE PERIODS OF MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL IN SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK. NORTHWEST GEORGIA LOOKS TO SEE THE BEST CHANCES FOR THIS ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AND THERE IS SOME CONCERN THAT ACCUMULATING HIGH RAINFALL TOTALS MAY LEAD TO MORE SIGNIFICANT FLOODING ACROSS THE AREA. PERSONS PLANNING OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES FOR THE WEEKEND SHOULD MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.
The stormy weather during the Fourth of July prompted Lake Lanier Islands to postpone its fireworks show to Saturday night.

Also, some Gwinnett cities rescheduled their fireworks displays because of the weather.
