'Organized Thunderstorms' To Affect Fourth of July in Gwinnett

What events have been canceled? Patch has the updates.

Suwanee and Gwinnett still are forecast to get wet on Independence Day, and the situation already is affecting holiday events.

A "special weather statement" from the National Weather Service issued July 3 said anywhere from 2 to 6 inches of rain are possible because of the "unusual weather pattern" setting up across the Southeast. 

However, the heavy rainfall won't completely wash the patriotic spirit out of Gwinnett County. Some events are still on, but some have been cancelled or re-scheduled.

Here's a quick look at what's on, what's postponed and what's still pending (as of 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 2):

Still On

  • Braselton: The festival and parade scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. July 4 in the Braselton Park was still on as of 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to the city's website.
  • Buford: The "Fabulous Fourth" at the Mall of Georgia is on for Thursday, July 4. It's a rain or shine event, according to a mall spokesperson.
  • Buford: LanierWorld at Lake Lanier has made no announcement about its planned fireworks at dark on July 4, either on its website or Facebook page.
  • Duluth: "Duluth Celebrates America" is a rain or shine event Wednesday evening, with events scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
  • Lawrenceville"Prelude to the Fourth" on the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse Square in downtown Lawrenceville is a go for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. If the event has to be stopped, it will not be re-scheduled.
  • Norcross: The Norcross Independence Day Celebration, scheduled to start at 4 p.m. Wednesday, was still on as of Tuesday evening. The event, with 15,000 spectators expected, is one of the largest Fourth of July events in the county.
  • Snellville: The status of "Star Spangled Snellville" on Thursday will be decided Wednesday, according to mayor Kelly Kautz.
  • Stone Mountain: The "Fantastic Fourth Celebration" at Stone Mountain Park is on schedule July 4-6.
