Search engines like Google (let's face it, Google is the standard these days) are giving more and more credit to social signals from social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. This has created "SMO". What is SMO?
A new term "Social Media Optimization" is on the scene!
Social Media Optimization, aka SMO, refers to the "optimization" of social media sites and online communities. The goal of SMO is to strategically strengthen social media outlets in a fashion similar to search engine optimization aka SEO for websites. A social media platform site that has been correctly optimized will increase publicity to generate awareness of a product, brand or event and show up high in Google or other search engine results.
