Ginepri Returns To Defeat Haas at Atlanta Tennis Championships

In the second day of competition at the Racquet Club of the South in Peachtree Corners, local favorite Robbie Ginepri makes strong comeback after an elbow injury.

Former top-15 player and local hero Robby Ginepri made a triumphant return to the ATP World Tour as he defeated Tommy Haas 6-4, 7-5 in the first round. In his first tour-level appearance since the 2010 US Open, American Robby Ginepri defeated German Tommy Haas 6-4, 7-5 in one hour and 44 minutes. The 29-year-old Georgia resident, a former World No. 15, had been sidelined since injuring his arm in a biking accident last September. Hass is also coming back from an injury and is competing in only his fifth tournament of the year. Former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt won 89 percent of his first serve points to dismiss American qualifier Phillip Simmonds 6-4, 6-4. Blake Wins Rain-Delayed ATC Match Against Gulbis

In another match, India's Somdev Devvarma prevailed over American Ryan Sweeting at the ATP World Tour event held this week at Peachtree Corners' Racquet Club of the South.

Monday, the first day of the Atlanta Tennis Championships brought together former World No. 4 James Blake and Latvian Ernest Gulbis, an ATP World Tour champion last year. In the featured match played on center court Blake dropped the first set leaving the veteran from the USA down 4-0 in the second-set tiebreak, but then he reeled off the next seven out of eight points to force the third set. With Blake up a break, rain forced an hour-and-18-minute weather delay. After the players returned to the court, Blake won the next three games to take the match 5-7, 7-6 (5), 6-2.
