Three Americans in Saturday's ATC Semifinals

Defending champion Mardy Fish, John Isner and Ryan Harrison set to play in Saturday's matches.

The final four are set at the 2011 Atlanta Tennis Championships and Americans are making a statement at the Racquet Club of the South in Peachtree Corners. Three of the four semifinalists are from the USA. Todays’s matches feature 6’9” American John Isner against Gilles Muller of Luxembourg, and defending champion and World No. 9 Mardy Fish against 19-year-old Ryan Harrison. This is the first time all year that three Americans have reached the semifinals of an ATP World Tour event.  The night match is an All-American affair featuring No. 1 seed Fish against the up-and-coming Harrison.  Last night Harrison fought off a match point at 5-6, 30-40, against Rajeev Ram, and then pulled off the victory in a third set tiebreak. Harrison Wins Rain-Delayed Singles, Advances to Quarterfinals

Defending Champion Mardy Fish also advances to quarter finals with win over Frenchman Nicholas Mahut.

PEACHTREE CORNERS -- Thursday’s action at the Atlanta Tennis Championships at the Racquet Club of the South set up what looks to be a big weekend of tennis. The quarterfinals were set, and the semifinals will be determined Friday. In the first singles match of the day, 19-year old American Ryan Harrison defeated No. 4 seed Xavier Malisse. With the match tied at a set a piece and 2-1 in the third set, lightning and then rain halted play for two-and-a-half hours. When the match restarted, Harrison dropped a quick break of serve, but battled to get it back and in the next game. From there he grabbed the upper hand and won 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-4. With his win over the No. 40 Malisse, Harrison is into his second career ATP World Tour quarterfinal. …

Locals Headline Gwinnett Pro Tennis Event

Racquet Club of the South hosts the week-long Atlanta Championships

When professional tennis comes to Gwinnett County on Monday, it'll bring a decidedly local flavor. Not only were Georgia Tech’s Guillermo Gomez and University of Georgia’s Wil Spencer granted wild card entry into the Atlanta Tennis Championships at the Racquet Club of the South, so was Kennesaw native Robby Ginepri in a field whose seven Americans include defending champion Mardy Fish and former UGA star and 2010 finalist John Isner. The best known name locally might be Ginepri, a 2005 U.S. Open semifinalist who reached the second round of last year's Atlanta Championships against Fish. “I’m so thankful to be back playing tennis and for the opportunity to play in front of my hometown fans in Atlanta,” Ginepri said. “It’s a great tournament…
