SPEAK OUT: Should Falcons, Gwinnett Collaborate on New Stadium?

The NFL team has opened the door to a new stadium in the suburbs. Share your thoughts.

An Atlanta Falcons stadium in Gwinnett County? Well ... The NFL team, of course, has been in discussion with City of Atlanta officials about building a new stadium to replace the Georgia Dome, which opened in 1992. The cost would be about $1 billion. Atlanta supposedly would cover its $200 million share by issuing bonds that would be backed by hotel-motel tax funds. However, according to media reports, Falcons president Rich McKay said last week that if a deal cannot be reached with Atlanta, that the team would be forced to look for a better deal elsewhere in the metro area. McKay said it was not a threat. But with the Falcons’ lease for the Georgia Dome set to end in 2017, the team does not want to stay in the building beyond that point…

Falcons' Stadium Voice Talks of the 2013 Super Bowl That Almost Was

Hanchey, a Suwanee resident, watched Falcons almost make the NFL title game -- on the job.

Tim Hanchey was back in church Sunday in Suwanee, but he had mixed emotions about it. Resuming his worship routine meant that he was not with the Atlanta Falcons in the 2013 Super Bowl. Hanchey is the Georgia Dome announcer for the Atlanta Falcons, which meant he, like the team and organization, came very close to a Super Bowl trip. The Falcons' last minute 28-24 loss to San Francisco two weeks ago meant that the 49ers got to play Baltimore in Sunday's game. (Kickoff: 6:30 p.m., CBS). Hanchey has been doing Falcons games in the Georgia Dome since 2006, before the current regime of Head Coach Mike Smith and GM Thomas Dimitroff took over. And Hanchey noted that there was a "different energy" for Falcons games this season, though the Super …

Atlanta Falcons to LA? Well ...

Atlanta's mayor and council discuss the matter, as well as with Falcons owner Arthur Blank.

The latest NFL team to be mentioned in buzz about possibly moving to Los Angeles is the Atlanta Falcons, who just happen to be involved in stadium discussions in Atlanta. Fox5 Atlanta has reported that Falcons owner Arthur Blank has "shared information" with Atlanta officials that business interests in Los Angeles are interested in moving the team to the West Coast. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has been calling in City Council members individually to tell them that that the city needs to take a more aggressive lead in the public financing portion of the proposed stadium, according to the report. The Los Angeles area has been without an NFL team since after the 1994 season, when the Raiders moved back to Oakland and the Rams, who played in …

Game time is 6:30 p.m., CBS. --- The Atlanta Falcons went farther in the playoffs in 2013 than in any year since the 1998 season. Yet, there's still the taste of defeat. And that makes many Falcons fans wonder, "What does it take?" Sunday's 28-24 loss to San Francisco at the Georgia Dome was tough for Atlanta in that the Falcons, who were the top-seeded NFC playoff team, had a 17-0 lead in the first half. According to media reports, that made it the largest comeback in the history of the NFC Championship. That shows the Falcons' chief weaknesses -- defense, and a championship tradition. And those should be the team's top priorities to keep …

SPEAK OUT: Will Falcons Clinch Home Field Playoff Advantage vs. Detroit?

Atlanta is having another good regular season, but seek to end playoff disappointments.

The Atlanta Falcons will travel to Detroit on Saturday (December 22) to take on the Lions, in a game with strong 2012 playoff implications. Atlanta already has clinched the NFC South title with a 12-2 record, and beating the Lions would secure home-field advantage through the playoffs. It's a similar scenario to 2010, when the Falcons won the division. However, Atlanta was humbled in the playoffs then by eventual Super Bowl champion Green Bay. And the fact is, Atlanta has not won a playoff game since the 2004 season, when Michael Vick was the starting QB. Atlanta still has another game remaining, hosting Tampa Bay on December 30. But a victory over Detroit is the goal. Coach Mike Smith told The Sporting News, "I think over the last two …

NFL May End Referees Lockout Soon

ESPN has reported that the lockout -- and use of replacement referees -- could end for Sunday's games.

The NFL's use of replacement referees -- and the controversy that it has created in just three weeks of the 2012 season -- could end soon. ESPN has reported that talks progressed enough Tuesday that regular officials could be back in time for games of Sunday (Sept. 30). An agreement in principle is at hand, according to one source familiar with the talks. The NFL Referees Association reportedly says its 121 referees have been trained on the new rules implemented last season, and have passed physicals or are prepared to pass physicals immediately. The league's use of replacement referees has caused many to question the league's integrity. The furor peaked in Monday night's Green Bay-Seattle game, in which Seattle was awarded a game-winning …
