'Snap Suwanee' Photo Contest Deadline Is Near

Entries are due for photo competition by Saturday.

The annual Snap Suwanee photo contest is under way, but the deadline is nearing. People can submit photos for consideration to City Hall by Saturday, Dec. 31. Applications are available at www.suwanee.com. Photographers may submit up to five high-resolution photos. Submissions without the application form or of photos that are low resolution may not be considered, according to a city news release. Winning photos will be displayed at City Hall throughout the year. Thirteen were selected in the 2011 competition, from 114 entries. For more information, contact City Hall. Suwanee Wants Digital App for SculpTour Patrons

City Council also recognizes North Gwinnett Arts Association leader.

Suwanee's never-ending eye for art is yielding a new wrinkle: electronic audio for people touring SculpTour. City Council on Tuesday gave the OK for city staff to apply for a $3,500 grant from the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau; the money would be used to produce a digital tool for smartphones that could be used in conjunction with the city's walkable outdoor art exhibit. Denise Brinson, Suwanee's director of economic development, said the audio would be in the form of an app or podcast; it should be available in 30-45 days. Suwanee City Hall To Host Merchandising Workshop

'Designing Windows That Sell' will be held Oct. 3.

Suwanee soon will host a workshop at City Hall that is geared for local businesses and led by an interior design consultant. Called "Designing Windows That Sell," the workshop will be held Monday, Oct. 3, 8 am-4pm, at City Hall and area businesses. Fee is $20 and includes lunch; Suwanee businesses will receive priority for the limited number of spaces. Susan Shaddox, interior design consultant with Main Street Arkansas, will lead the session, which will focus on image-building, window displays and product placement. Another lively week has passed in Suwanee. A recap.

Another week that was ... and was it ever ... in and around Suwanee. Another snow job: The city got another snowstorm, one month after a serious storm shut down government, businesses and schools. This one was good for show only (see attached video), with much of it melted by the next morning. Police to add Tasers: Suwanee law enforcement will use forfeiture funds to buy eight of the electric shock devices that are used to subdue resistant subjects. Chief Mike Jones noted that it would reduce injuries to officers and that effects on subjects are temporary. Many other agencies in the area already have the devices available.
