The Braves make a deal for Justin Upton and others. Share your thoughts.
Ah, time for some baseball hot stove talk, with help from the Atlanta Braves. Seems the Braves made a big trade Thursday (January 24) that could determine a replacement for retired All Star Chipper Jones. The Braves' signature acquisition Thursday was outfielder Justin Upton from the Arizona Diamondbacks, in exchange for utility player Martin Prado and pitcher Randall Delgado, among others. -- Who will replace Chipper Jones at third for Atlanta? How will the Upton brothers fare on the same team? Share your thoughts in the comments below. However, the deal also brought third baseman Chris Johnson to Atlanta, and that's the other interesting part. Johnson, 28, likely will compete with Juan Francisco, who was acquired by Atlanta in 2012, for …

For the second straight week, NFL replacement referees have figured in highly publicized disputed plays. And on Monday night (Sept. 24), the substitute officials directly figured in a game-deciding play. According to many media reports, the Seattle Seahawks were awarded a last-second touchdown on a bizarre Hail Mary play on which Green Bay safety M.D. Jennings appeared to come down with an interception that was later deemed to be a Golden Tate game-winning reception. The score eventually gave Seattle a 14-12 victory. "That was two of the worst calls at the end of a football game that I can remember," commentator Jon Gruden said on ESPN, which televised the game nationally. "I love this league and love the game of football, but tonight’s …

"I've always looked at Kyle as a normal big brother," his sister says. And so the world gets another look at the remarkable story of Kyle Maynard, the Suwanee man who recently climbed to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro -- despite being a congenital quadruple amputee. The new video, which is attached, includes footage of Maynard's childhood, of his exploits as a wrestler, of emotional encounters with others as a motivational speaker -- and of his journey up the tallest peak in Africa, which was completed in January. The recent feat was not easy. "At the end of the day, I was pretty wiped," he recalls. And in mid-climb, the team changed to a new but more dangerous route -- "it's a big risk," the narrator says. Sunday, January 1, 2012
It used to be simple -- four football bowl games on New Year's Day, or Jan. 2 if New Year's Day fell on Sunday, as it does in 2012. Now, the long arm of television has the big games scattered out for a week. But the big ones now are the Bowl Championship Series games, which begin Monday and conclude with the LSU-Alabama title game on Jan. 9. The attached graphic, provided by H&R Block, shows that bowl games mean millions of dollars to the participating schools and the host cities. As with the regular season, the term "amateur athletics" seems odd. But people love the football, so here is the schedule for this year's BCS games (all BCS games are on ESPN). Rose Bowl: Jan. 2, Wisconsin-Oregon, 5 p.m. Fiesta Bowl: Jan. 2, Stanford-Oklahoma …
