Artists' Work To Be Displayed at Park in Suwanee

June Gotthardt and Karen Devine will display their works beginning March 2 at George Pierce Park.

In Suwanee, you're never far from an arts display, and two artists will put their works on exhibit soon at George Pierce Park in Suwanee. According to a Gwinnett Parks news release, June Gotthardt's work is landscape scenery of the North Carolina mountains, which will leave you with an appreciation for Appalachia. Karen Devine's work emphasizes a "child-like sense of wonder." The exhibit will run from Saturday, March 2, through May 31. Hours are Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is free. Valentine's Activities for Everyone at Gwinnett Parks

Gwinnett Parks & Recreation Department calendar lists events for families, sweethearts, and senior citizens.

February is filled with Valentine's Day celebrations at Gwinnett Parks everywhere in the county. There are Daddy-Daughter Dances in Suwanee and Norcross, a Family Valentine Dance in Lawrenceville, a romantic Valentine Day Dinner Dance for Sweethearts in Lawrenceville. For senior citizens, there is a Valentine Day Breakfast in Lawrenceville and a Valentine Day Tea, also in Lawrenceville. Gwinnett Parks Wants Your Input; Suwanee Session Included

Public input meetings are scheduled during October for 2013 capital improvement plan.

The Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a series of public input meetings during the month of October. A session is planned at George Pierce Park in Suwanee. Members of the Gwinnett community are encouraged to attend one or more of these meetings where they will have a chance to provide input for the 2013 Capital Improvement Plan Update. -- What are your suggestions for Gwinnett parks? Tell us in the comments below. The 2013 Capital Improvement Plan Update is set to build on the Parks and Recreation Capital Improvement Plan from 2007. Park in Suwanee Showing Gwinnett Artist's Work

Exhibit runs through November at George Pierce Park.

Updated Aug. 2, 2011 The retrospective of a 35-year art career by a Sugar Hill resident went on display Monday, Aug. 1, at George Pierce Park in Suwanee, the county said in a news release. Chris Hamman, a member of the North Gwinnett Arts Association, began paining in the 1970s in the Midwest.  He later studied with Ernie Haring, a well-known regional water colorist, and started painting using watercolors. After getting married and moving to the West Coast, he began to work with oils, acrylics and other mediums. He has lived in the Atlanta area since 2004. Gwinnett Pools Preparing To Open May 28

Special passes are available for county residents.

Gwinnett County acquatic centers are preparing to open May 28, and residents can purchase special FUNCARDS that will be valid at all Gwinnett pools. Gwinnett parks operates two indoor and seven outdoor leisure pools, four indoor competition pools, three indoor instructional pools, and one outdoor pool. Year-round, seasonal or 10-visit FUNCARDS are valid at all Gwinnett County pools, according to a county media release. All paying patrons (18-up) will be required to furnish proof of residency in order to avoid paying the non-resident rates. Gwinnett County residents have the option to purchase a Resident Passport as a convenient way to show proof of residency. Meteor Shower in Gwinnett Sky Tonight

Eta Aquarids meteor shower will happen late Friday night/early Saturday morning.

If you gaze up at the cosmos on Saturday morning in the wee hours—or Friday very late, depending on how you look at it--you may see a meteor shoot through the sky. The Eta Aquarids meteor shower will take place take place between 3:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, according to Daniel Herron of the Atlanta Astronomy Club. Each year two showers occur when dust particles from Haley’s Comet pass by the earth. “It takes a bit of commitment to be up at that time, for sure,” said Herron, but for him it is worth the theatrics. He said that the Meteorological Survey estimates that 10 to 12 meteors will be visible per hour, which will give a good chance for seeing a show. Senior Citizens Find A Home at Suwanee Park

George Pierce Park has many programs for the older set.

From the moment you walk into the George Pierce Park Community Center, you instantly feel welcome and comfortable. And that feeling is one many seniors in and around Suwanee feel when they enjoy the various programs offered. The park's community center is a beautiful facility, complete with lecture rooms, computer labs, Bridge tables, and cozy reading areas. During a visit, two Bridge games, a computer class, and even an AARP tax-assistance class were going on simultaneously. In addition to the events and classes, senior trips and clubs are available.
