Well known income tax preparer H&R Block acknowledges making an error on 2012 income tax returns that could delay up to 600,000 refunds. In media reports Tuesday, a Block spokesperson said the company, which has an outlet in Suwanee, improperly filed Form 8863, which deals with education credits, leaving mandatory fields blank. The problem reportedly stems from a change in the way the IRS processes “yes” or “no” questions on the forms. The IRS previously accepted a blank field to mean “no” on the form. However, this year it requires physically entering the answer “no.” Block has a tax-preparation outlet at the Walmart in Suwanee, as well as other locations in Gwinnett. In the post-fiscal cliff world of 2013, it's coming up on income tax season again. And a well-known tax business is ready with a special offer. According to its website, well-known tax preparer H&R Block will prepare and file your federal income tax return for free through February 15, if you file the 1040 EZ form. And Block will have satellite offices throughout Gwinnett, including at Walmart in Suwanee. H&R Block Extends Free Income Tax Offer

Suwanee among the sites with the offer until April 30. Also, federal online filing is free for 1040EZ.

It's crunch time for taxes, and one well-known preparer is extending an offer for some filers. H&R Block has extended its offer to prepare for free returns for taxpayers filing the 1040EZ form, in certain areas of the U.S. The Atlanta area is one of those, and the Block location inside the Walmart in Suwanee is among the locations with the offer, until April 30. The Block website says it will charge $39 for each state tax return with a Federal 1040EZ. Also, federal and state e-file is included at no extra charge. And Block also is touting free online filing for form 1040EZ on its website, with an additional fee for state filing.

Walmart Is Offering Free Income Tax Preparation

The retailer, which has a Suwanee outlet, will have top preparers inside stores through Feb. 29.

Updated Feb. 27, 2012 Walmart, the nation's largest retailer, is still offering free preparation of some income taxes, but the offer ends soon. The Atlanta-Journal Constitution is among the media outlets reporting the service for 1040EZ forms. The offer will be good through Wednesday, Feb. 29. H&R Block and Jackson-Hewitt, nation's top two tax preparers, will have kiosks inside Walmart stores for the service. There is a Walmart outlet in Suwanee. About 39 percent of the total 133 million individual returns filed with the Internal Revenue Service last year were submitted before the end of February, the AJC reported.

One of the most dreaded days of the year is fast approaching. Normally, tax-filing day is Friday, April 15, but due to a holiday, it has been moved to April 18.  For those who have not done their taxes, do not fear.
