SPEAK OUT: Did H&R Block Error Delay Your Tax Refund?

Up to 600,000 returns reportedly were affected nationally. Share your thoughts.

Well known income tax preparer H&R Block acknowledges making an error on 2012 income tax returns that could delay up to 600,000 refunds. In media reports Tuesday, a Block spokesperson said the company, which has an outlet in Suwanee, improperly filed Form 8863, which deals with education credits, leaving mandatory fields blank. The problem reportedly stems from a change in the way the IRS processes “yes” or “no” questions on the forms. The IRS previously accepted a blank field to mean “no” on the form. However, this year it requires physically entering the answer “no.” Block has a tax-preparation outlet at the Walmart in Suwanee, as well as other locations in Gwinnett. The delays related to the filing errors reportedly are creating concern…

H&R Block is ready in Gwinnett, and has a special offer for 1040EZ filers.

According to its website, well-known tax preparer H&R Block will prepare and file your federal income tax return for free through February 15, if you file the 1040 EZ form. IRS Announces New 2013 Tax Rates and Standard Deductions

It's tax time again in Suwanee and elsewhere. Standard deductions will increase, but the ceiling for itemized deductions decreases in 2013.

Walmart Is Offering Free Income Tax Preparation

The retailer, which has a Suwanee outlet, will have top preparers inside stores through Feb. 29.

Updated Feb. 27, 2012 Walmart, the nation's largest retailer, is still offering free preparation of some income taxes, but the offer ends soon. The Atlanta-Journal Constitution is among the media outlets reporting the service for 1040EZ forms. The offer will be good through Wednesday, Feb. 29. H&R Block and Jackson-Hewitt, nation's top two tax preparers, will have kiosks inside Walmart stores for the service. There is a Walmart outlet in Suwanee. About 39 percent of the total 133 million individual returns filed with the Internal Revenue Service last year were submitted before the end of February, the AJC reported.
