Moore and the rest of the U.S. Olympics women's basketball team Saturday (Aug. 11) captured the 2012 gold medal by defeating France, 86-50. The U.S. women's basketball team, which got a scare in first-round play Saturday in the 2012 Olympics, will be back in action Monday (July 30). The women's dream team, led by former Collins Hill High standout Maya Moore, will take on Angola on Monday, 5:15 p.m. The U.S. women were in a fight with Croatia on Saturday before pulling away to an 81-56 victory. Angola already has lost, 72-50, to Turkey. In the medal count, the United States has three golds and 11 medals overall as Monday (July 30) began. Maya Moore, the former Collins Hill star now playing in the WNBA, has cancelled her planned basketball camp in Suwanee. Moore had been scheduled to hold her first camp on Dec. 20-22 at the Suwanee Sports Academy. However, unforeseen circumstances forced cancellation, according to Moore's agent, Lindsay Kagawa. Moore led the Lynx to the WNBA title as a rookie and she was named Rookie Of The year. Also, she led UConn to two national titles and a collegiate record (both genders) of 90 straight victories.

Former Suwanee basketball star Maya Moore will be holding a basketball camp in her hometown in December. Moore, currently with the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx and a former star at UConn, will hold her inaugural camp on Dec. 20-22 at the Suwanee Sports Academy. The camp will run Dec. 20-22, 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m., and will be for boys and girls ages 8-16. Maya Moore has another title. The former Collins Hill High basketball star led the Minnesota Lynx to a WNBA title in her rookie season. The Lynx defeated the Atlanta Dream on Friday, 73-67, for a three-game sweep of the title series, according to various news reports. Moore had 15 points in Friday's clinching win. Moore, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft, helped the Lynx post a 27-7 regular-season record. Minnesota was 7-1 in the playoffs. Moore helped UConn to an NCAA women's title in her outstanding career there.

After a successful run at the University of Connecticut, Maya Moore now plays for the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA. The Lynx began their series against the Atlanta Dream for the championship on Sunday. Rookie of the Year Moore helped the Lynx beat the Dream 88-74. The forward scored 11 points in game one of the best of five series. Maya Moore. Minnesota. Has a nice ring, right? The former Collins Hill High and UConn basketball star now knows her professional future will be with the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA. She was the first player taken in Monday's WNBA draft, which was held at ESPN studios in Bristol, Conn. Moore, a 6-0 forward, finished her career as UConn's all-time leading scorer (3,036 points) and led the Huskies to two NCAA titles. She is the fourth UConn player to be selected No. 1 overall by the WNBA. Also, Moore is a two-time winner of the Naismith Award from the Atlanta Tipoff Club, considered college basketball's top award.

Moore, the former Collins Hill High star, and the Huskies lost 72-63 Sunday night to Big East rival Notre Dame in the NCAA basketball semfinals. Stanford, which handed UConn its only regular season loss, was beaten 63-62 by Texas A&M in the other semifinal in Indianapolis. The winners will play for the national title Tuesday night. However, it was another stellar season for Moore. She is the Big East Player of the Year, averaging 23.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
