Suwanee High School Football Schedules for 2013

Collins Hill, North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge will be competing again soon.

Hey, it may be spring, but football season is just a few months away. And the Suwanee schools' schedules have been determined. Again this season, North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge will participate in the Corky Kell Classic in the Georgia Dome on Aug. 24. Collins Hill will open its season on Aug. 30 vs. Central Gwinnett. Collins Hill, North Gwinnett Begin Play in State Soccer Playoffs

Defending champion Collins Hill boys will host a first-round game in the Georgia High School Association soccer tournament.

Suwanee-are high schools — including defending large-school boys soccer champion Collins Hill — will be well-represented in the Georgia High School Association boys and girls soccer state tournaments, which begin this week all across the state. See also: The Eagles begin their defense by hosting West Forsyth High Wednesday, May 1, in the first round of the Class AAAAAA tournament. Also playing this week: Collins Hill's girls, who host Johns Creek Tuesday (April 30), North Gwinnett's girls, who play at Lambert, also on Tuesday; and North Gwinnett's boys, who host South Forsyth. North Gwinnett Girls Fall to Norcross in State Final

Lady Blue Devils had command most of the game to beat cold-shooting North Gwinnett.

Check back to see photos from the big game North Gwinnett fell behind early and couldn't recover in a 63-42 loss to Norcross Saturday night in the Class AAAAAA girls basketball championship game at the Macon Centreplex. Norcross, which won its third Georgia High School Association girls basketball title in four seasons, used 44 points from stars Diamond DeShields (24 points) and Shayla Cooper (20 points) to beat the Lady Bulldogs, who fell behind by as many as 23 points. North Gwinnett was led by Lexie Brown's 20 points. Suwanee Baseball Teams To Be in Event at Coolray Field

Ten high school teams will compete on March 8-9, 2013.

North Gwinnett, Collins Hill and Peachtree Ridge high school baseball teams will be part of a two-day baseball showcase this week in Gwinnett. Ten high school teams from Gwinnett and Forsyth counties will compete in a two-day, five-game event on March 8-9 at Coolray Field Also participating are teams from South Gwinnett, Mountain View, Lanier, Providence Christian, Duluth, Brookwood, and North Forsyth. “We’ve had singular events before, showcasing some top high school baseball teams in the area,” Gwinnett Braves General Manager North Johnson said in a news release.  “Through the efforts of the community and our staff, we have expanded to welcome the largest high school showcase in the history of Coolray Field. The student-run festival debuted Saturday in Town Center Park.

The weather seemed more appropriate for the annual holiday lighting of the caboose in Suwanee. Still, event organizers and patrons turned out to Town Center Park in Suwanee on Saturday (March 2) for Cultures of Suwanee, the first park-oriented event of 2013. Students from the Studio I program at North Gwinnett High organized the event, which was meant to emphasize the city's cultural diversity. North Gwinnett Girls in State Basketball Finals

North will face region foe Norcross for the title Saturday in Macon.

Yogi Berra might say, "It's like deja vu all over again." The North Gwinnett girls have reached their first state basketball final -- and have to beat a longtime region rival for the title. North defeated North Cobb 57-40 on Saturday in the semifinals at Georgia Tech. Also winning Saturday was Norcross, which defeated Langston Hughes with a 64-16 smacking in the other semifinal. Now, North must prepare for a familiar foe in the finals. It beat Norcross in two of three games this season, including for the Region 7-AAAAAA title. "It's just like preparing for a region game," North's Lexie Brown said of facing Norcross. "It's always a great game." Peachtree Ridge Boys Eliminated; North Gwinnett Girls Know Semifinal Foe

The state basketball semifinal games will be streamed online.

The Peachtree Ridge boys basketball team was eliminated Wednesday from the state AAAAAA basketball tournament. The Lions fell to Wheeler, 60-47, in the quarterfinals at Wheeler. Jordan Capps led Peachtree Ridge with 16 points. Also, the North Gwinnett girls know that they will be facing North Cobb in Saturday's semifinal game at Georgia Tech. North Cobb defeated Tift County in the quarterfinals. In Saturday's other AAAAAA girls semifinal, Norcross will be facing Langston Huges at 4 p.m. The North Gwinnett-North Cobb game is at 7 p.m. The title game will be March 9 in Macon. North Gwinnett-Norcross Rematch for State Basketball Title?

North and Norcross win in the quarterfinals. Peachtree Ridge boys play Wednesday.

For the second straight season, the North Gwinnett High girls basketball team has reached the state AAAAAA basketball semifinals. North defeated Alpharetta, 55-41, on Tuesday in Suwanee to reach the final four. North will take on the North Cobb-Tift County winner on Saturday (7 p.m.) at Georgia Tech in one semifinal. North's region and Gwinnett rival Norcross will be in the other semifinal. Norcross will take on Langston Hughes after defeating Cherokee on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the Peachtree Ridge boys will attempt to keep their title run alive. The Lions will play at Wheeler the quarterfinals. Peachtree Ridge Boys Advance in State Tournament

Suwanee teams are still alive.

The Peachtree Ridge boys stayed alive in the state AAAAAA basketball tournament Saturday. The Lions came away with a 67-60 victory over Shiloh in Snellville. The win means the Lions will play at Wheeler next Wednesday (February 27) in the quarterfinals. Also, the North Gwinnett girls learned they will face Alpharetta, who defeated Central Gwinnett on Saturday.
