Georgia Tied for Fifth in Final 2012-13 AP Football Poll

The Bulldogs, with 12 wins, finished alongside Texas A&M in the ranking.

Georgia's 2012 football season, which almost resulted in a shot at the BCS title, has produced its highest final ranking in years. The Bulldogs finished tied for fifth nationally, with fellow SEC member Texas A&M, in the final Associated Press poll, which was released Tuesday (January 8). Of course, Alabama, which defeated Notre Dame 42-14 on Monday in the BCS title game, was ranked No. 1. The Fighting Irish fell to No. 4. -- Do you agree with Georgia's co-No. 5 finish? Gwinnett Sheriff's Deputies' Sons to Face Off in BCS Championship Game

The sons of two of Gwinnett's finest, one of whom is from Lawrenceville, are on opposing teams in the Alabama-Notre Dame clash.

The Orange Bowl between Alabama and Notre Dame will be televised Monday, January 7, at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN. --- The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office has a unique stake in Monday's BCS Championship Game between top- ranked Notre Dame  and No. 2 Alabama. Two Gwinnett Sheriff’s Deputies have sons playing in this year’s title game -- on opposite teams. (With Video) Alabama Dad Is Speechless Over BCS Title Game Ticket

A widely viewed YouTube video captures the Christmas joy over a trip to watch the Crimson Tide play Notre Dame.

Can we get a big Rammer Jammer on this? An Alabama dad and Crimson Tide fan had plenty of Christmas cheer, and a widely viewed YouTube video captured the moment. Don Buckhannan of Boaz, Ala., already was plenty pleased when he got a fedora like iconic Alabama football coach Bear Bryant used to wear. But when Buckhannan was prompted to look inside the hat, he found the real prize -- a ticket to watch his beloved Crimson Tide play Notre Dame for the BCS championship on January 7, 2013. Overwhelmed with happiness, his reactions included, "Hot Diggity Dog." The ticket and hat were gifts from Buckhannan's son, Daniel Buckhannan of Oxford, Ala., who posted the video to YouTube. The Notre Dame-Alabama game for the BCS Championship will be televised on ESPN on Monday, January 7, at 8:30 p.m. --- Someone HAD to lose Saturday's SEC Championship in Atlanta. After a memorable back-and-forth effort, Alabama prevailed over Georgia, 32-28. The Tide came from behind three times and held off a strong Bulldogs comeback in the final seconds, as reported by Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports. It's Notre Dame vs. SEC Champion for BCS Title

Georgia and Alabama also win Saturday to complete the postseason picture.

The SEC Championship Game between Alabama and Georgia will be televised at 4 p.m. December 1 on CBS. --- Things went as expected in SEC football action Saturday (November 23), and Notre Dame also won to set up the BCS National Championship scene. The Fighting irish, ranked No. 1 in the BCS standings, completed an 11-0 season Saturday night with an 22-13 victory over rival USC. In the SEC, Georgia smacked Georgia Tech 42-10, and Alabama walloped Auburn 49-0. The Crimson Tide (No. 2 in BCS) thus clinched the SEC West title and will play Georgia (No. 3 in BCS) for the SEC title in Atlanta on December 1.
